Camp Graham

In order to provide additional sleeping quarters at Camp Graham off Kerr Lake, the Girl Scouts of North Carolina Coastal Pines solicited the architectural services of Weinstein Friedlein Architects to design a unique and contemporary interpretation of a common cabin. These six rustic cabins sometimes referred to as “treehouses” are situated around a central pavilion with bath house below. The collection is organized along the tree line around a grassy meadow and is unified by textures and a meandering walkway raised 10′ off the ground. Recycled telephone poles create the triangular structure with 2’x12’s and glulam beams for floor supports. Fiber cement siding is interlaced with FRP for natural daylighting. Hatches in the floor and carefully placed operable windows assist with passive airflow since the cabins do not have central heating or air.
