The scope of demolition work included removal of the existing furniture and floor finish back to the slab, and trenching of the slab in order to install new under floor duct systems for upgraded A/V capabilities for each senator’s work station. Ceiling repairs required extensive asbestos abatement and refinishing. Multi story scaffolding was erected over the entire senate chamber to facilitate safe access, and then asbestos was abated in the existing ceiling. The abatement work was sealed off and performed while the rest of the building was occupied. Once the abatement was complete, the ceiling was refinished, and painted. After completion of the ceiling work, wall layouts were modified, new millwork trim was installed, doors were refinished, floor and wall finishers were reworked, and new custom furniture was put in place. A special North Carolina State seal was also constructed for installation on the wall. All of this work was completed on a compressed project schedule in order to finish the work while the senate was out of session. |
