Description:

WUNC was an up fit project at the American Tobacco Historic District in downtown Durham. The project began with one of the bays of the old tobacco building which had been completely stripped, leaving only the original masonry walls and floor slab. The WUNC project involved creating a new work environment while preserving the integrity and incorporating the character of the historic building. CT Wilson installed offices and special sound rooms for recording, broadcasting, and editing. Construction of the seven sound rooms involved completely isolating the rooms from the structure and any potential vibration, as well as installing special soundproof doors, windows, walls, ceilings, and electrical equipment. WUNC now broadcasts news and talk shows from this location and many of the shows can be seen from the courtyard of the American Tobacco campus.
