Description:

Completed in February 2004, this project consisted of gutting forty eight thousand square feet of patient care space and renovated it for the New Rehabilitation Center for UNC Hospitals. The owner requested that we do some exploratory demolition work prior to the completion of the construction documents by the architect, which was valuable to the quality of the final bid document. Once the construction documents were 95% complete we were paid by the designer to do a preliminary estimate. We were then the successful bidder and constructed the project as a single prime general contractor. This work was done literally in the middle of the hospital while patients were being served both above and below us. In order to tie into the existing mechanical and electrical systems we had to do a great deal of work on the ninth, eighth, and sixth floors. In order to successfully complete this work we had to carefully schedule and coordinate all the construction phases and activities. We completed this multiphase project without affecting patient care or any other owner activities.
